Norfolk:
CAMPAIGN AIMS TO HELP BUY SCHOOL UNIFORMS

By Amy Jeter, The Virginian-Pilot, July 11, 2007

The city’s vice mayor and a local developer are raising money to help Coleman Place Elementary School students buy school uniforms.

Vice Mayor Anthony L. Burfoot and Don Weeks, president of Golden Heritage Homes, hope to raise $20,000 in their “Look Sharp, Be Proud Coleman Place” campaign.

Coleman Place students will be the 15th Norfolk school to require uniforms starting this fall, when a newly constructed school building is scheduled to open. Two other schools have voluntary uniform policies. About 700 students attend Coleman Place Elementary, and uniforms cost between $30 and $40.

Contributions may be sent to Assistant Principal Evelyn Orton, Coleman Place Elementary School, 2450 Rush St., Norfolk, VA 23513-4492.
